Hey there a many beautiful things these eyes have seen in the biking world and i was hoping to find some DC-ers who would like to recreate/sculpture ideas after a few of the most special:
1) A bike Library: a place where community members donate old and unused bikes which a are fixed up by volunteers and returned to the roads for community use at reasonable rates that cover the cost of supplies. It also becomes a place where anyone can stop by and have all the tools they need and experienced help they might require to learn to fix and maintain their own bikes. the bike is a lovely machine and fortunately not too intimidating to enjoy fixing, a place where people improve their confidence with hands-on skills is a marvelous thing!
2) Bike thank yous: people stand beside commuter trails in the morning ringing bike bells and offering some complimentary homemade snacks as a tribute to those who bike for transportation (or really anyone else on the trails) it just brings joy, positive attention and a sense of comraderie to the act and art of biking
3) something humboldt state called the "greaseman" a few service experts beside a trail offering people free lube and a cleaning for their bike chain and some basic check-up assistance, they used to also give out info on local ways to get involved with fun bike rides, advocacy or both as well.
4) Trail warriors: groups go out and help clip back overgrow bushes or perform other maintence that keep the trails clean, safe and accessible.
5) event rides: such as all dc-ers biking out together to old town when the torepedo factory hosts its late nate open galleries, or riding along the canal at each full moon
6) rides and potlucks- a good ride that works up an appetite followed by food brought by all in a picninc setting or in a home- its kind of like having a meeting only there is lots of food and really happy satisfied people after a nice ride
